  • Posted on: 25 October 2021
  • By: Michael

Hello All,

Drupal 7's end-of-life is scheduled for November 28, 2022. At that time the Drupal Security Team will cease all security coverage for Drupal 7, and as such Internet Design Alliance will also cease support of Drupal 7 to maintain the safety and security of everyone's sites and servers. [1]

To make time for the transitions of everyone’s websites off of Drupal 7, new enhancement requests related to Drupal 7 will be closing on November 22, 2021.

Note: All existing, in queue, enhancement requests will be processed in the order received.

How to ‘Fix’ Auto-Mounted Drives with ‘Wrong’ Permissions

Those new to Linux hit this quickly.

I can mount the drive, but permissions show the owner as 'Root'. I can not add or delete anything!

They stick a USB Flash Drive or external Hard Drive into their system and the system automagically added the drive for them. Usually popping up the drive in their default file manager. Then they can’t use the drive at all. Thanks auto-mounter! It doesn’t happen always, but frequently enough that one has to wonder why there are still bugs in ~20+ year old software.

Hi All,

This email is just FYI. No actions are needed on anyone’s part.

# # # IDA NameServers are updated

Everyone has either already received individual emails earlier this weekend informing you I’ve made updates directly to your registrar or emails over the prior several weeks asking you to update your registrar directly for those I don’t have access to. This email expands on what/why those DNS changes took place.

Thumbs Down to CentOS Web Panel (CWP) by Simple Machines

tl;dr
Don’t use CentOS Web Panel (CWP) for production use. Hobbyist use, as long as you accept probable downtime, should be okay.

I’m looking for a cPanel alternative. Not because their product is bad, but because cPanel’s pricing went nightmarish after being bought by the group of investors led by Oakley Capital (also owners of Plesk and SolusVM).

Non-profits, Covid-19, and subscription deferments

Hi All,

First an apology to those this isn’t relevant for.  I don’t have a real way to
identify the non-profit clients that are essentially ‘closed’ at the moment
because they currently aren’t allowed to interact with the public.  I tried
to send individual emails, but another non-profit popped up today that I had
missed.  :(  So, sending this to everyone...
